History of Myasthenia Gravis
Apparently, the first recorded incidence of MG is in 1672 where Thomas Willis wrote of “a woman who temporarily lost her power of speech and became ‘mute as a fish.'”
History of the disease can be found in a paper written by Sir Geoffrey Keynes – link: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1034650/?page=1 . The paper is not an easy read – it is decades old – but it does trace the disease from when it first became apparent to the medical world.
A very succinct history can be found here: http://www.jci.org/articles/view/29894
A history of Myasthenia Gravis treatment can be found at:
There is also a book available on the history of MG – By M.D., John C. Keesey Myasthenia Gravis: An Illustrated History (available on Amazon)
